MUSIC / HEALTH / FITNESS / FASHION / BEAUTY

It's Laila K from Sonic Boom Six! Follow my adventures as I document my life in the band and on the road. I will also be sharing all things musical (interviews with bands, reviews of gigs and festivals), health (innovative clean recipes), fitness (my road to getting abs and a booty), beauty (reviews and tips) and fashion related tings as well as all the fun things I get up to!

WORKSHOPS

As well as singing, I also like to give Performance and Confidence Workshops. In the past I have been part of The Female Takeover at The Warren Young People's Project in Hull and the Right Your Rhythm Workshop, where I have helped young, vulnerable females with confidence building, performance techniques, lyric writing and in general to be there for them to talk to me about their fears and apprehensions and provide some escapism in the form of music and art.

At first I found it daunting, as I'd never done anything like this before but as I got into it, I really enjoyed it and saw the potential that was there to help people by the means of listening and providing the right support for them.

THE WARREN – FEMALE TAKEOVER - August 2012
Press piece from http://www.hullgigguide.co.uk

The Warren is a young people's resource centre for 14 to 25 year olds. Music has been a key part of The Warren’s activities for well over 20 years.

The Warren have focused on providing the best resources they can, free of charge, to young people in Hull. These include an industry standard equipped recording studio, a midi room, rehearsal room and DJ booth.

The Female Takeover is an exciting, cutting edge programme of women only music activities, from the 21st to 24th August 2012 at The Warren, aimed at empowering young women to gain the skills and confidence needed for them to move things forward and take greater ownership in a currently male dominated industry.

All workshops are free and will include: confidence building, lyric writing, singing, MC’ing, beat making, DJ’ing and sound engineering. There will also be space for those who want to just come along and jam!

This inspiring collective of Hull’s young women will showcase the talents they have developed during the week, pushing the boundaries and mixing up different styles, at a free event at Fruit on Saturday 25th August from 1pm to 5pm.
